Many modern vehicles now feature heavily tinted glass which is manufactured using a fine particle metalised film. While providing good shielding against intense light conditions, it also prevents GPS signals from entering the vehicle, hence navigation system operation is impaired.
The solution to this is to connect an external aerial to the navigation system. The extension aerial kit can be temporarily fitted to the outside of the vehicle or it can be permanently installed under a non metallic surface which has direct line-of-sight to the open sky; under a plastic wiper scuttle or bumper cover for example.
