The SpeedM8 electronic speedometer converter is a cost effective solution for producing an MPH readout on a speedometer which only has a KMH scale. This type of speedometer conversion is for vehicles which use electronic pulsed signals to drive the speedometer.
We offer a professional installation service for this product. please click here for details.
For newer vehicles which use CAN Bus signalling, please follow this link.
SpeedM8 explained
The SpeedM8 unit is installed to the wiring at the rear of the speedometer. The converter works by sensing the vehicles electronic speed pulse signal and generating a new MPH signal for the speedometer. After installation, the speedometer will show an MPH reading on the original KMH face scale. A small MPH label is provide to cover the original KMH symbol. No further modifications are required to the speedometer face. Additionally, the vehicle odometer will now increment in miles.
Automatic Gearing & Peripheral Signal Control
Many vehicles feature an electronic peripheral speed signal, which is different from the original speed signal. The peripheral speed signal is usually generated by the speedometer, based upon the original speed pulse signal. Many electronic speed conversion products available on the market do not feature peripheral speed signal control and their installation can lead to trouble.....
Incorrect automatic gear changing, loss of over drive and poor electronic power steering operation are all symptons of a bad speedometer conversion. The SpeedM8 system is designed to convert the speedometer without impairing the performance of other speed sensitive systems. The programmable version of our product can be set up in seconds to suit over 250 different imported vehicle models. A programming pack is available for Trade customers. For Private customers, we can supply a converter ready programmed to suit your vehicle, complete with installation instructions.
Delimiting
Japanese performance vehicles imported from Japan will be road speed restricted to approximately 112 MPH. While this restriction does not affect driving on public roads, off-road use on specialised tracks, race circuits and German Autobahns is obviously impaired.
The SpeedM8 system can remove this restriction. In most cases, the same unit used to convert the speedometer to MPH, can also enable de-limiting. We can also provide a SpeedM8 unit especially for delimiting only, for installation in circumstances where the speedometer has already been converted or conversion is not required.
For newer vehicles such as the Nissan 350Z , Nissan Skyline 350GT and Mazda RX-8 , a CAN Bus delimiter is required. Please click here for details.
Please note: A small number of Japanese performance vehicles employ complex speed signalling systems which may require two SpeedM8 converter installations for speedometer conversion & de-limiting. The SpeedM8 checkout has details of the functions that the converter provides for each vehicle.
