16 Mhz 'Easy Tune' FM Band Expander

Products Index Imported Vehicle Conversion FM Band Expanders 16 Mhz 'Easy Tune' FM Band Expander

16 Mhz 'Easy Tune' FM Band Expander
Price:   £19.95

This FM band expander enables the reception of UK radio station broadcasts on imported Japanese car radios.

How it works

Japanese radio station broadcasts are transmitted on a narrower FM bandwidth than that of UK radio stations. The standard tuning range of an imported Japanese car radio is 76 - 90 MHz. This means that at present, the only UK FM station which can be received on a standard Japanese car radio is BBC Radio 2.

The Band Expander works by shifting incoming radio frequencies to a level that the radio can tune to. This Band Expander reduces frequencies in the following manner:

  • UK stations which broadcast between 90.1 - 106 MHz can be received at their normal frequency minus 16 MHz. For example a UK station broadcasting at 97.9 MHz can be received on a Japanese radio by tuning to 81.9 MHz (97.9 minus 16)

Broadcasts below 90 MHz are un-affected by the Band Expander.

An 'Full Range' version of this Band Expander is also available, which features a 12 / 24 MHz frequency shift for all stations between 90.1 - 108 MHz.

Installation

The FM Band Expander is installed at the rear of the radio. Remove the existing aerial plug connector from the rear of the radio and push it into the Band Expander aerial socket. The Band Expander aerial plug connector then fits in to the radio aerial socket. Finally, the expander requires connection to a suitable fused, switched positive power feed. This also can usually be located at the rear of the radio.

Please note: This Band Expander is fitted with standard type aerial connections. Some Nissan models feature a twin prong type aerial connection. This unit cannot be directly connected to this type of connection without an appropriate adapter.
